Horrible Experience - Naturepedic EOS Mattress

I bought the Naturepedic latex mattress as a replacement for a Pure Talalay Bliss mattress that had become too soft over time. This purchase is the worst mistake of my life. I spent considerable time in the store laying on different configurations of the EOS latex mattress to get the right comfort and support, all to no avail. After receiving the mattress, it was much firmer than the store models and caused me hip and shoulder pain. I did a layer swap, still too firm. I reconfigured it, still too firm. I even bought a $400 2" Talalay topper and am still having hip and shoulder pain. Unfortunately, there is now a major supply chain issue and Naturepedic is very inflexible with their return period, even during a pandemic. I have tried and can't get a replacement bed from another company so that I can return the Naturepedic mattress and get my money back within the 90 days. This has been a $3000+ mistake. Naturepedic has not been understanding at all and I wish I had never heard of this company.
What's truly ridiculous about this situation is that Naturepedic is happy to have me donate the bed and show proof of donation to get a refund. So the inflexibility regarding the return rate is doubly confusing to me.

Outstanding comfort, fantastic customer service, but latex smell

For customer service and mattress comfort, I give this company five stars. They have been fantastic on every level, especially during the pandemic. The only ding comes from the ongoing smell of the latex. I have had this bed for more than three months now and it still smells of latex. If I flip my pillow over in the middle of the night, I will smell the latex on the bottom side of the pillow. It is an inconsistent smell, though, and seemingly activated by body heat. So now my new ritual is to change my sheets, wash my pillows, unzip my mattress casing and air out the latex every week or so. But it is annoying to spend so much money on a mattress only to have it deposit a latex smell in your hair, pillows, sheets, and pajamas.

That said, the EOS pillow top mattress is fantastic for comfort and support. I liked being able to customize the support layers in the trial period, too. In the store, a firm coil with a firm support latex layer and a medium pillow top latex layer seemed to be the best. But after sleeping on it, that wasn't the best combination. I preferred a firm coil with a firm latex support layer and a soft pillow top latex layer. That was great for sleeping on my back or front, but not quite as comfortable for sleeping on my side. So I ended up ordering the organic wool topper from Naturepedic and that made it ideal. So now I am very pleased with the temperature regulation of the wool topper, the comfort and support of the bed, and the lack of chemical foam to irritate my asthma.

I'm just left with the smell. I'm hoping it will eventually dissipate but as it's about the same as it was when I purchased it, I don't think it will change. It's not unpleasant, but it is present. So sensitive noses, you are forewarned. Is it worth the organic comfort and support? Yes -- that's why I kept the mattress. But I do wish it weren't so strong.
